What camera? How is it to be modified?
For DSLR/mirrorless, there are basically 3 types of modifications:
a. The cover IR cut filter is removed, or replaced by another filter that passes H-alpha. This modification will enhance the sensitivity for the h-alpha region, which is important for most astro imaging. Sensitivity for the other spectral regions remains more or less the same.
b. Remove the IR cut filter, as well as the RGB filter layer of the sensor. Such modification changes the colour-camera o a monochrome one. As all RGB filters are removed, sensitivity over the whole visible spectrum will be increased, at least 3-4 fold.
c. Add cooling to the camera. This is mainly to reduce thermal noise which is inherent to all electronic devices, including the camera sensor. When noise is reduced, the effective sensitivty will be increased.
