Yes, he did.
But you have to clean off the dirt beforehand.
Use some mild detergent, put the mirror into the solution for about 20 minutes.
Then gently rub the surface of the mirror with your hand and detergent.
Rinse it with plenty of tap water afterwards.
Deionise or distilled water is not necessary.
