AAVSO Alert Notice 638
Nova in Scutum - N Sct 2018 = TCP J18292290-1430460
July 2, 2018
Event: Nova in Scutum - N Sct 2018 = TCP J18292290-1430460
Discovered by: Yukio Sakurai (Mito, Japan)
Discovery magnitude: unfiltered CCD magnitude 10.3, on two frames using Nikon D7100 digital camera + 180-mm f/2.8 lens
Discovery date: 2018 June 29.5768 UT
Coordinates (2000.0): R.A. 18 29 22.93 Decl. -14 30 44.2 (from VSX)
Spectra: Olivier Garde and Umberto Sollecchia (ARAS Group) report (ATel #11802) that echelle spectra obtained by Garde (Observatoire de la Tourbiere, France) on 2018 June 30.861 UT and low resolution grim spectra obtained by Sollecchia (L'Aquila, Italy) on June 30.874 UT indicate N Sct 2018 to be a classical nova in the optically thick (Fe-curtain) stage. All spectra are publicly available though the ARAS database at http://www.astrosurf.com/aras/Aras_Data ... ct2018.htm
Observing recommendations: Observations of all types (visual, CCD, DSLR, PEP, spectroscopy) and multiple bands as instrumentation permits are strongly encouraged as the nova evolves.
