News from Galaxy Zoo

文章 PTS » 週二 20 8月, 2013 08:56

Greetings Everyone,

It’s always exciting to see a new Galaxy Zoo paper. Today’s release of our latest is really exciting! Galaxy Zoo 2: detailed morphological classifications for 304,122 galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, is now accepted for publication in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, you can read more about it on the blog. This paper uses more than 60 million clicks from all of you and is the result of a lot of hard work, led by Kyle Willett at the University of Minnesota.

In addition to the paper we’re making the data available for anyone to use. You can find it alongside data from Zoo 1 at http://data.galaxyzoo.org. One of the most rewarding things about the project so far has been watching other astronomers make use of the original data set – and now they have much more information about each galaxy to go on.

Of course, Galaxy Zoo continues at galaxyzoo.org. On the site right now we're looking at images from the SDSS and also from the Hubble Space Telescope. We're working hard to bring you images of your favourite galaxies in the infrared soon - but more on that closer to the time!

You can keep up to date with Galaxy Zoo in many ways, including the blog, Twitter, our Facebook page and our links and Hangouts on Google+.

Happy Clicking!
