Dear Taksun Poon, Patrick Lau, Kenneith Hui, W. C. Yue, Wayne CHAU, Chilong Lin
(CC: Bruno Sicardy, Dr.Soma)
This is Tsutomu Hayamizu ,Japan.
I'm forwarding Bruno Sicardy's message to Asian observers.
Would you cooperate ?
Regards.
Bruno's message given below.
-------------------------------------------------------
Dear Tsutomu,,
I am contacting you about a stellar occultation by the TNO Varuna on
Jan. 8th around 20h30 UT
It was predicted months ago, but recent astrometry conducted by Jose Luiz Ortiz (Granada, Spain) and other people, using the 1.2m Calar Alto telescope, indicates a possible path on Europe or Japan, see
http://www.iota-es.de/varuna08_01_2013/ ... 12013.html
The star has R~16
Could you consider attempting the event, and distribute this alert among other people you know in Japan, or in other Asian countries?
NOTE THAT WE WILL TRY TO HAVE MORE ASTROMETRY IN THE NEXT DAYS, SO THAT THE PREDICTED PATH MAY STILL CHANGE
With my best regards, a best wishes for this New Year!
Bruno sicardy
PS. I copy this mail to Jose Luis Ortiz, and Felipe Braga, my PhD student.
Science:
Varuna is a special big TNO, extremely elongated (axis ratio~2) and fast rotating (P~6h). The main goal is to get the shape of the body, and see whether it is in hydrostatic, fluid-like equilibrium, or on the contrary, a body maintaining a distorted shape under its own internal strength.
Cheers,
Bruno

Finder charts
I've prepared finder charts with the following FOV:
blue.jpg and red.jpg are 15 x 15 arcmin
blue-30m and red-30m are 30 x 30 arcmin
As the star is extremely dim, I cannot make a finder chart from The Sky 6 yet.
