Dear Zooniverse volunteers
Thanks to all your hard work, 2011 is already looking like the busiest year yet for the Zooniverse. All of our projects are producing excellent results thanks to your help, but two in particular deserve mention.

Planet hunting progress
Congratulations to our Planet Hunters, who've now looked at all of the original data at www.planethunters.org. Don't worry though, you'll still find plenty of lightcurves on the site. We're now working through data released in February by the Kepler team. This new data is nearly three times as long as the original set - meaning you can find longer period planets.
We also have our first preliminary planet candidates list (see
http://www.planethunters.org/candidates) that was released January 31st. We are working hard on more sophisticated algorithms and techniques to take all your classifications from the initial batch of data, and already actively following up our top planet candidates with observations from the Keck telescopes and have applied for more telescope time to aide in characterizing our planet candidates and their host stars.
Don't forget that you can ask questions and talk about the lightcurves you've seen on our Planet Hunters Talk site (http://talk.planethunters.org), on our blog
(http://blogs.zooniverse.org/planethunters) and on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/PlanetHun ... 5563205996).

New Beta Test for IceHunters
Last week we tested a new Zooniverse project "Ice Hunters" with Galaxy Zoo: Supernovae and Galaxy Zoo users. Thanks to the help of more than 3700 of you, we are now ready to expand our beta test to the full Zooniverse.
To try out the site as a beta tester, go to:
http://demo.icehunters.org
The tutorial is here:
http://demo.icehunters.org/tutorial
The site will launch to the public in late May or early June, so please keep this address to yourself for now. IceHunters uses data around the world to look for Kuiper Belt Objects (KBOs), Variable Stars, and Asteroids. The ultimate goal is to find the Kuiper Belt Object (or Objects) that the New Horizons spacecraft will be redirected to after in flies past Pluto in 2015. The data to find that object is being taken right now. While we wait for it, we have loaded in testing data from 2004 and 2005; images filed with unknown KBOs, variable stars, and asteroids that appear as blobs and streaks in the residuals of the subtracted images. Your name will be associated with your every discovery, and catalogues will be published next winter.
Help us find new icy bodies today: http://demo.icehunters.org

Thanks for all your help, whichever www.zooniverse.org project you've worked on. We, and the science teams behind the projects, really appreciate the effort.

Don't you think you have broken the promise that the icehunters website is only kept for individual members rather than released in public?
Cheers

I suppose there is some misunderstanding here.Archimedes 寫:Hi PTS,PTS 寫:New Beta Test for IceHunters

The materials I posted was from an email sent to me by the ZOO, who encourages public participations.
There was nothing from myself, and I believe ZOO like my spreading the message.
Look forward to your active participation in this projects.

Re: Join the hunt with the Zooniverse
Frankly I also received this msg. Of course ZOO hopes more participants to take part in the search. However, I think there're some reasons for ZOO guys suggesting us that the site be kept only for individual at the moment, maybe some promotion work to do or something else. They've already noted that in late May or early June the site will be publicized, when then we can dissiminate the address without any potential violation. I think participants should agree with their rules at least, otherwise, enthiusiasm may well bring in troublesome issues to the website in this case, which is not welcome by the administrators.PTS 寫:I suppose there is some misunderstanding here.Archimedes 寫:Hi PTS,PTS 寫:New Beta Test for IceHunters
