早期的香港DIY有電跟的赤道儀

當上門打聽天文鏡的到貨進展時,無意中發現到這個早期的香港DIY有電跟的赤道儀.

聽老闆講它的蝸齒有成三百多個齒. 真係想知到它可否與現代中型的mount較量一下.

I am interested in where did you find this?
From the photos, the polar axis is based on my earlier design : using bronze bushing as bearings, and a split bronze bushing as the clutch.
This must belong to one of my old friends.

I still keep 2 sets of this worm gear, one is double thread
and one is signle thread, both are 180 : 1 in ratio.
I believed that the mounting only seen part of the polor axis
in photo is belongs to Mr. Y.P. Kwan.

You can find the synchronized motor in the second photo
(in lower left hand corner) the motor comes with a 10 teeth
gear has a rate of 1 rpm, at the right hand side is a 80 teeth spur gear.
Combined with the 180:1 worm gear, this is the good tracking
system at that time.
For the synchronized motor, it was disassembled from a old
wall clock, you can easily bought from Apliu Street,
Cat Street and or Canton Road at HK$10 each.

Yes, I suspect it belongs to Bosskwan. I am still waiting for his tp-1. He promised to have it ready last week.

Yes. The owner is Boss Kwan.

The worm gear has 360 teeth, but the worm is double-thread. Thus the gear ratio is 180:1.

I still have 3 of these gears. I believe I have purchased at least 15 or 18 of them in the 1970's.

These were available from a kiosk in Canton Road, for about $20 a set.
