Yes ar.... EM11 is still quite heavy and pretty expensive too. What do u think about GP2? is it good enough for serious astrophotography? Any doubt?A/45 寫:That's true! I'm stuck at the mount. 1) Tak EM11 "die-hard approach" - but it's still too heavy for me at 8+kg for the mount head to bring onto the plane; or
2) GP2 with SS2000 or SBS "the nimble one"- much lighter -mount head 4+kg only but a bit less accurate.
"Cargo" on board (scope+cam+guidescope etc.) is approaching 7kgs.
Still not decided yet.

Yes ar.... EM11 is still quite heavy and pretty expensive too. What do u think about GP2? is it good enough for serious astrophotography?
Yes ar.... EM11 is still quite heavy and pretty expensive too. Yes ar.... EM11 is still quite heavy and pretty expensive too. Lawrence,
Portability, flexibility and light in weight are overwhelming important for me to travel around to take AP. If EM 11 has such features with high accuracy, I will definitely pay for it despite its high price but such mount does not exist nowadays. I will definitely autoguide my GP2 in this summer somewhere in China. I suggest you bring your scopes along to have some experience between making the final purchase decision.

That's a good idea - we should team up and each of us can bring less!syyuen168 寫:Lawrence,

That's exactly my concern. Does the lighter weight really worth the loss in accuracy... I've once owned an EM11 and has no doubt in its guiding accuracy which is top notch; but if I put the 7kg imaging "cargo" on the GP2 for say 5 min. subs I just have no idea what it would turn out to be.noodle

For sub-zero temperature, I would only trust a mount running on bearings.A/45 寫:That's exactly my concern. Does the lighter weight really worth the loss in accuracy... So, it really depends on where it might be used.
