As there is no mirror, focusing screen & prism, there is no need to ensure the equivalence of the two light paths. So it can be easily modified by removing the IR filter

Yes.

For bright objects, one may need to add an IR filter.

BTW, Panasonic and Olympics are using 4/3 chips. Most prefer APS-C chips.
