I've heard there exists some China made variable "ND"
but they suffer from changes in hue.

According to the Kenko Japan web-site, the release date is 26 Aug 2011. So one won't expect it in Hong Kong until September.

BTW, it is possible to DIY one with two linear polarizing filters.
