As long as you do not have a big brand name for taxation, you should be fine for self made products.bingsze 寫:鏡神的那支應該冇咩問題。

I agree that getting a van may be difficult for southern Lantau Island.
Actually, I usually go to Clear Water Bay to watch DSO (Mostly because it is closer to home. I always worry that the sky condition will change when I get to PTC). The eastern direction is very very dark, much better than PTC in any direction (although I have no definite data to verify this, which is a subjective impression and may be wrong). Except the western direction where light pollution is terrible, I generally can see my targets (mostly in the Messier catalogue) in the finderscope.
Since I usually have students to go with me, transporting equipment from car park to the kite area is of little problem.
However, sometimes the place suffers a lot from strong light from boats. But usually, it is okay because they are absent.
In fact, for first light, I will probably go to Clear Water Bay or PTC just to familiarise myself with using the scope in the field.
I've done some measurements in a taxi today, the whole white box of 18"UC can definitely fit inside the back seat but whether it can enter the door is another issue. The box can also go to the boot compartment but will stick out of the car by about 2 inches. Should be okay, but there is of course some chance of accident. In the worst case, we can just put the contents in the back seat, and the empty white box can go into the boot. After arriving at water mouth, can put the stuffs back to the white box and then use a trolley to tranport it to observation site.
May be I'll try to take taxi with an empty box in the next few days and see how it goes.
Once I am confident about everything, all are welcome to come along to enjoy the sky with this scope.
I can never afford a 22" because it is just too big for me. I am sure that 18" is the largest one I will ever get. If I want 22", may be I'll just see when I will have a chance to see Chanlunlun's 24" or 30".
I will seriously consider bringing this thing to Taiwan or abroad. Helpers are definitely welcome!!!
Just a thought: may be you can try book a handicap taxi to go to east dam. Your scope should be able to fit in easily...
The 5-year old 18"UC just had its first light after adding Argo Navis and ServoCAT system.

It wasn't much different from what people having watched with big scopes here have said before - a rather bright nucleus with a halo.kingyo 寫:我估應該有用黎睇彗星,想知效果如何?例如細節。
On the more practical side, the students found it much easier to watch the comet at higher magnification as the nucleus was actually quite bright and was useful for focusing purpose. At low magnification, they didn't know how to focus.
