My wish to see the McMath-Pierce Solar Telescope and the historic Lowell Observatory has finally fulfilled.
Percival Lowell's tomb is facing the 24-inch clark dome.
Unfortunately, the 24-inch Clark Refractor is under repair and I can only peek through the glass door. It is the best maintained and most beautiful among the 3 great Clark refractors (I visited the 36-inch Lick Refractor in 1996 and the 40-inch Refractor at Yerkes Observatory in 2010) with all shinny bronze parts.
The 13-inch astrograph that Tombaugh used to discover Pluto is also well maintained. It is interesting to see the orange-coloured tube and wooden dome. The driving gear is much over-sized, estimated to be some 24-inch in diameter.
