I got my canon 12x36 IS II, it's wonderful and lightwight 660g, much better than my previous oylmpus 8-16x40.
I think it's good balance between OPTIC, PRICE and WEIGHT.
Brought from Adorama <$5k, much cheaper than the list price form canon hk~$6k
I will recommend Canon IS binoculars for you, I think 15x 50 IS or 18 X 50 IS are better options, but expensive $8k-9k, and heavier ~1.1kg
IS= image stabilizer, once you click the IS button, faint stars appears, no more shake

nikon has IS binocular too, but not as good as canon's ( I havn't try nikon, judgment only by their specification)

I've been using Canon IS 15x50 for a few years and I am very happy with it already.

Let me say a few differences between Canon and Nikon's IS:
1. Canon's IS can only compensate handheld vibrations, while Nikon's Stabieyes can compensate much larger shaking (vibration due to vehicles). So one cannot use Canon's IS on cars, but Nikon's Stabieyes can be used on cars/boats.
2. When operating IS, Canon's bino shows a little degrading of image quality. Nikon's Stabieyes does not have such problem.
3. The button for Canon's IS has to be pressed all the time with a finger (not sure if this is the case for all models), but Nikon's Stabieyes has the hold function.
4. The largest difference, however, is their price. Nikon's Stabieyes are much more expensive then Canon's IS of similar aperature. Nikon's Stabieyes is also more heavy.
I have owned Canon's 10x30 and 8x25 IS, but cannot afford the Stabieyes.
One more information: Nikon's Stabieyes should be the OEM product of Fujinon's Techno-Stabi.
