Don't even require quantum theory to predict temperature fluctuation.

If all particles in a system have energy level exactly the same with each other, there is one and only one way to distribute the energy. While particles all have different energy levels, there are many many more ways to distribute energy. So in statistical thermodynamics, it is predicted that particles in a "system" will have different energy levels with one and other. This varied temperature represents increase in entropy. The distribution of energy/temperature should follow the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution (see http://ibchem.com/IB/ibnotes/full/sta_h ... tzmann.htm).
Statistic is a way of looking at it. But since the question was asked from the Big Bang, so Quantum Theory is mentioned...

A brief history of time, Chapter 9 (節録如下):

I shall discuss first the thermodynamic arrow of time. The second law of thermodynamics results from the fact that there are always many more disordered states than there are ordered ones. For example, consider the pieces of a jigsaw in a box. There is one, and. only one, arrangement in which the pieces make a complete picture. On the other hand, there are a very large number of arrangements in which the pieces are disordered and don’t make a picture.

Suppose a system starts out in one of the small number of ordered states. As time goes by, the system will evolve according to the laws of science and its state will change. At a later time, it is more probable that the system will be in a disordered state than in an ordered one because there are more disordered states. Thus disorder will tend to increase with time if the system obeys an initial condition of high order.

Suppose the pieces of the jigsaw start off in a box in the ordered arrangement in which they form a picture. If you shake the box, the pieces will take up another arrangement. This will probably be a disordered arrangement in which the pieces don’t form a proper picture, simply because there are so many more disordered arrangements. Some groups of pieces may still form parts of the picture, but the more you shake the box, the more likely it is that these groups will get broken up and the pieces will be in a completely jumbled state in which they don’t form any sort of picture. So the disorder of the pieces will probably increase with time if the pieces obey the initial condition that they start off in a condition of high order.

I have indicated that it is thermally isolated. I can assure you that you get crystals putting the solution in a vacuum flask with no heat gain or lost. In reality, the solution heats up when ionic crystals are formed. See discussion above.

PS. Equalibrium is reached when the solubility increase that comes with the increasing temperature makes the solution a saturated one instead of a supersaturated one.
In any lab on earth, there is no such thing called "perfect thermal isolation". The solution will dissepate heat slowly. The only way to keep the temperature of solution constant, one can only slightly heat up the container to compensate the heat lost. In that case, the crystals will not be formed simultaneously.

The forming of hydrogen atoms/matters/stars and galaxies does not contradict the second law of thermal dynamics, because in all cases, there is no net energy input to this universe from "outside" at all.
Theoretical physicists as well as astrophysicists have calculated the net amount of energy in the universe is ZERO.
Consider my example of two glasses of warm water. If one eventually becomes hot and one becomes cool, there is no energy input from outside the system. However, this situation contradicts the second law and so it is impossible.

So far as the amount of solute is above the limit of solubility crystal will be formed.

It is the definition of supersaturation. :D

Simple, here is the prediction of statistical thermodynamics using the second law.

1. All parts (no matter how small is each part) all have the same temperature. There is only one energy distribution way. The probability of having such a distribution among billions fo billion distributions is virtually zero.

2. A well defined part A and a well defined part B has different temperature with each other but the temperature is the same within each part. Theoretically it is possible to have such a distribution, but the probability is extremely low. i.e. virtually no chance to have such a situation.

3. Ill defined parts all have different temperatures from one another. These parts changes all the time. The temperature distribution follow the Maxwell-Boltmann distribution, which is based on maximum probability.

Your arguement: because (2) is improbable, so (1) must be the only possible situation.

In reality, only (3) is the likely (or even possible) outcome (because the probability is very high).

...the material of which the forming star is composed undergoes a large decrease in entropy during the formation process, and the rest of the universe (since total entropy must never decrease) endures an even larger increase ...

I think I find the answer to my original question. The secret lies in the expansion of the universe. When it expands quickly, the evenness of the distribution of gases will be destroyed. So the maximum allowable entropy of the whole universe increased.

Please take a look here:
http://machineslikeus.com/news/big-bang ... modynamics

So the conclusion is: the birth of the universe does not violate the second law of thermo dynamics.

Actually, quantum fluctuation is needed to deal with the big bang issue as the universe is expanding so fast at that time so that interaction of particles to reach the Maxwell-Botzmann distribution is unlikely.

I am not saying using quantum theory is not correct. I am just saying that the second law of thermodynamic never suggests a uniform temperature.

The web page you quote is in itself full of problems.

Uneven temperature never requires fast expansion and there is no reason why fast expansion creates temperature variation.

"Pocket of order" is not a thermodynamic concept.

The worst one is alluding that a drawer of orderly socks has lower entropy than a chaotic one. Definitely a misconception of entropy. The claim implies that, the neatly organised drawer can do some useful work in the process of becoming the untidy drawer. By definition, entropy is a measure of the degree to which energy has lost the capacity to perform useful work. Saying that neat drawer has lower entropy means there are less unusable energy in it -- given the total energy is the same, the claim is saying that the neat drawer contains more usable energy! Absolutely nonsense! It is exactly this sort of misconceptions that started your problem.

The one you quoted earlier (from mad science) is much clearer to tell why forming of stars represents entropy increase in the total system :D
